Livio Caputo, born in 1959 in Santa Severina in the south of Italy,
developed an interest in ancient art already at a young age.
After graduating from his hometown's high school, he moved to Genova.
It was there that he started to take a specific interest in Asian Art
and that interest soon became a passion. In this he was certainly helped
by the many travels he made to the Far East while working on a cruise
ship. To his fascination for ancient Buddhist art he added a vast knowledge
of Far Eastern Culture in general. Ancient bronzes have become his favorite
subject.
Today
Livio runs a small booth (D 04) at Antiques Market "De Looier"
in Amsterdam. There he meets other sellers and collectors, people who
are interested in the same hobby. With his enthusiasm and knowledge
he knows to inspire those who are new to the game as well as those who
have been collecting already for years.
What
he likes most is to discuss all sorts of issues with other collectors
and with his clients. If the main objective is to sell, there is another
aspect which is important, and that is discussing how to distinguish
a forgery from a valuable, old and authentic work of art, from a collectable
treasure.
